Yes, but it’s a little more complicated than that. Our PPE fabrics are designed and manufactured onsite in our West Yorkshire mill using high-performance technical fibres. This allows us to create industry-leading protective fabrics.

Hainsworth sits in the middle of the PPE supply chain, meaning we work with companies like DuPont (who produce Nomex and Kevlar fibre) and PBI, as well as specialist yarn spinners who supply us with the raw materials we need to weave our fabrics. These are then supplied to our customers to manufacture garments.

Different fibre types offer a variety of features and benefits, so Hainsworth works with a wide range of suppliers to create fabrics that blend these capabilities into single high-performance textiles.

We can only provide test reports relating to the outer shell. We do not test assemblies or multiple layers – this would be the responsibility of the garment manufacturers.

We test our fabrics against the relevant outer layer sections of the key standards they were designed for. For most products, this includes:

– EN469 for structural firefighting PPE
– BS 7971 for Police PSU PPE
– EN 15384 & AS/NZS 4824 for wildland firefighting PPE

Our product toolkits provide more detail on the specific standards tested for each product. However, these are not exhaustive. It’s possible our fabric is suitable for a standard not listed.

Given the volume of PPE standards, we don’t test against all of them, especially where we’ve already tested against more stringent alternatives. Where historic test data isn’t available, our Technical Team can usually advise on the suitability of a fabric for testing.

Our minimum order for new fabric is 1 piece (roughly 100 metres), based on the yarn we need to purchase to create the fabric. We may be able to help with smaller quantities for initial sampling, depending on stock availability.

Yes – we offer some core products and colours with a 1-piece minimum order. Custom colours are available but may require a higher minimum order quantity. Please get in touch to discuss your requirements.

All our protective fabrics are made to order. Lead times depend on yarn availability, required quantities, and mill capacity.

– Core products: typically available within 8 weeks or less
– Custom colours/products: development may take up to 21 weeks
